About the Artist
Melissa Lockwood is a NY based conceptual artist and self-taught fashion designer. She studied at the University of Iowa, receiving an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts. Frustrated with the detrimental effects of fashion industry's mass-production of clothing, a process which sends leftover cuttings to landfills, Lockwood is taking an environmental and socially aware stand--raising awareness about the environmental impact of the waste and toxic pollution caused by the mass disposal of textiles. Her work utilizes what is commonly seen as waste, turning it into stylish, of-the-moment fashion pieces.
As a part of NY Fashion Week, Melissa Lockwood is having a Runway show at Studio 450 Penthouse:” Touched with Water" September 14, 2016, doors open 6:00pm show 6:30 450 W 31st Street New York, NY
